Samuel Jernigan is an aspiring sculptor who showcases his work at California State University, Long Beach. He’s from Central California, he graduated from CSULB last semester with a BFA. Aside from being an artist, his hobbies consist of binge watching television shows, and working at farmers markets. HIs work reveals two opposing ideas – alienation and belonging. His inspiration came to him from an experience at a flea market. He would see old “abandoned” and would somehow bring them “together”.
An interesting piece to me was, the fish sculpture because when he was tightening it the fish was looking at him with a smile and at the time he felt sad while doing it. He made sure to incorporate both of these emotions into this piece of art.
I really appreciate how samuel finds a way to fit alienation and belonging into one because my understanding of that possibility is so much greater now.

week 4- graffiti writing @ venice
I drove all the way to venice today and although there was horrible traffic and finding a parking was awfully hard I really enjoyed it. i tagged my name on a circular wall and i also held a snake which was extremely scary but fun. I really enjoyed writing my name and it was also crazy to see people doing their art on the art walls. Some people are extremely talented I didnt know where to put my name because i knew i couldn’t top some of that art.
